Integrated amplifier

Dual mono integrated amplifier

An integrated amplifier is for the most a stereo preamplifier with a signal source selector, balance control, tone controls and a stereo amplifier in one unit. There are even dual mono integrated amplifiers where the 2 channels are separated yet in the same unit.

The source selector is usually for AM and FM tuner, CD, AUX or more. Older amplifiers and the better still today, also have the option for turntable and cassette deck use. The better also have both MM and MC phono inputs. Even though tape recorders are not standard anymore, its signal levels are the same as for cd, tuner etc so any other connections can be used for it.

A few decades ago, most integrated amplifiers (and stereo receivers) had a switch in order to use two pairs of speakers, some only one at a time, some at the same time.
There are also integrated tube amplifiers.

An integrated amplifier also integrated with a tuner is the same as a stereo receiver.
